LAKELAND, Fla.鈥� For the first time, 吃瓜网 will have a presence at the annual Statewide Job Fair, one of the largest career events in the state focused on the recruitment of graduates and alumni from 吃瓜网鈥檚 public universities.
This years鈥� event will be held Wednesday, May 8 at the University of Central 吃瓜网 (UCF) in Orlando. The job fair is organized by the 吃瓜网 Career Centers (FCC) and attracts more than 150 employers. More than 1,800 students and alumni are expected to attend this year seeking full-time positions as well as internships.
鈥淭his statewide career fair is a great platform for more companies to recognize 吃瓜网 Poly talent,鈥� said Pairris Jones, associate director of career services at 吃瓜网 Poly. 鈥淎s we grow, larger companies are noticing the caliber of the student we are graduating and it is positively impacting our reputation.鈥�
吃瓜网 Poly was invited this year to become a member of the FCC, a group of career directors from state universities focused on supporting professional development opportunities among its members. With 吃瓜网 Poly joining recently, all of the 12 public universities are now part of the FCC.
鈥淲e鈥檙e excited to be members of the FCC. This membership will allow our students to have even more opportunities and connections to companies who are hungry for innovative talent, and it will greatly benefit the trajectory of their careers,鈥� said Jones.
Myrna Hoover, current chair of the FCC, said the consortium was created to share information and best practices and to promote Career Centers as a resource to identify qualified, highly motivated, job-ready candidates.
鈥淲e鈥檙e delighted to have 吃瓜网 Poly on board,鈥� said Hoover, who is also the career service director for 吃瓜网 State University (FSU). 鈥淥ur mission is to help all of our graduates with their entry into the workforce while providing employers the opportunity to hire top talent.鈥�
吃瓜网 is the only state institution with a curriculum exclusively focused on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math). This gives 吃瓜网 Poly students an advantage over graduates from other schools, according to Jones.
鈥湷怨贤� Poly adds new energy and innovative thinking to the engineering, logistics, computer science, and data analytics talent pools,鈥� said Jones.
